The exam is scheduled to take place from December 31, 2025, to January 7, 2026, in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode across multiple cities in India.

According to the official NTA notice, the examination will be conducted for 85 subjects, assessing candidates for eligibility for Assistant Professorship and the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). NTA has also issued an advisory urging aspirants to ensure all personal and academic details are accurate while submitting the application form. Admit cards will be released closer to the exam date, followed by the result declaration tentatively in the last week of January 2026.

The UGC-NET exam consists of two papers — Paper 1 (General Teaching and Research Aptitude) and Paper 2 (Subject-specific). Both papers are conducted in a single session of three hours without any break. Candidates are advised to visit the official website regularly for updates on the admit card release and city intimation slip.

Students lining up at Patna University, reflecting the growing demand for law and professional courses.

Patna University has recorded a remarkable surge in applications for its law courses in the 2025–26 academic session, signaling the growing appeal of legal education among students.

The Bachelor of Laws (LLB) program emerged as one of the most sought-after courses, drawing 2,640 applications for just 300 available seats. Similarly, the Master of Laws (LLM) program saw intense competition, with 379 applicants vying for only 20 seats.

Beyond law, several postgraduate programs such as MEd, commerce, zoology, and political science have also attracted a large number of applicants, reflecting a shift in student preferences toward fields with clear professional and academic prospects.

In contrast, traditional humanities disciplines, including Persian, Arabic, and Bengali, witnessed fewer takers, highlighting a gradual decline in interest for classical language studies.

The application trends indicate a broader transformation at Patna University, where career-driven and research-oriented courses are steadily taking precedence over conventional subjects.
