The Bihar government has appointed Dr. N. K. Agrawal as the Acting Vice-Chairman of the Bihar State Higher Education Council (BSHEC), marking a key leadership change in the state’s higher education administration.

The appointment follows an official notification issued by the Bihar education department, filling a position that had been vacant since the end of the former vice-chairman’s tenure in September 2025.

Dual Responsibilities

Dr. Agrawal, who currently serves as the Director of Higher Education for Bihar, will continue to oversee his ongoing responsibilities while also leading BSHEC in an interim capacity. He will hold the acting vice-chairman position until the state government finalises a permanent appointee.

In addition to his administrative roles, Dr. Agrawal is a respected faculty member at L.N. Mithila University and previously served as an academic advisor to BSHEC. His academic and administrative experience positions him well to steer the council during this transitional period.

About BSHEC

The Bihar State Higher Education Council serves as the apex advisory body for the state’s higher education system. It plays a vital role in policy coordination, planning, and evaluation, and works to elevate the quality and accessibility of university education across Bihar. The council also liaises with national schemes and funding mechanisms to support institutional development.

Significance of the Appointment

The vice-chairman’s role is central to implementing reforms under state and national education frameworks. With Dr. Agrawal at the helm, stakeholders in academia and government anticipate continuity in strategic planning, stronger policy implementation, and renewed focus on expanding higher education access and quality in Bihar.
