Education rarely happens in isolation. A student’s success is shaped by far more than what takes place between a teacher and a textbook; it is the product of three interconnected forces: family, school, and community. Understanding how each of these entities is defined, and how they work together, is foundational for educators, school leaders, and policymakers who are serious about improving educational outcomes. When these three pillars operate in alignment, students are better equipped to learn, grow, and thrive. When even one is weakened or disconnected, the effects on a child’s development can be significant. With CBSE releasing its parenting Calendar 2026–27, there is strong focus on stronger parent-school collaboration and students’ well-being.

The Parenting Calendar provides a well-defined structure to improve communication and interaction among parents, teachers, and students throughout the academic year. It includes teacher-guided activities, interactive discussions, and psycho-social support measures aimed at addressing students’ educational, emotional, and social requirements.

According to CBSE, active cooperation between parents and schools plays a vital role in creating a positive learning environment that supports academic achievement while also fostering emotional strength and social growth among children.

Based on the Vision of NEP 2020

The initiative has been designed in line with the principles of the National Education Policy 2020, which emphasises holistic and inclusive learning. The calendar features special sections covering inclusion by encouraging fair and sensitive practices for students from diverse backgrounds, adapting to change by assisting families in understanding new academic patterns and curriculum developments and parenting sessions by providing age-specific guidance and support for parents. Through these measures, CBSE aims to help parents play a more effective role in supporting their child’s academic and personal development in today’s evolving education system.

Supportive and responsive environment

One of the key ways we promote parental involvement is by maintaining consistent communication and cooperation between teachers and parents. Sujata Chandra, Vice-Principal, Indian Public School, says, “The CBSE Parenting Calender is a structured, year-long framework introduced by CBSE (starting in 2025-26, updated for 2026-27) designed to strengthen home-school partnerships. Our school has been regularly conducting parent-teacher meetings, workshops, and seminars to keep parents informed about their child’s academic progress, learning requirements, and areas that may need additional attention. Such interactions help parents remain actively involved in their child’s education and enable them to provide better support at home. Another effective initiative is the student-led conference, where parents actively participate in the programme. During these sessions, students present their classroom learning and achievements themselves, which encourages confidence and ensures enthusiastic participation from both students and parents.”

She adds, “In addition, the calendar will help the school strives to create an inclusive and collaborative environment where parents feel respected and welcomed as important members of the school community. Parents are encouraged to take part in various school activities, including volunteering during events, joining parent-teacher associations, and contributing to school development initiatives. Their suggestions and opinions are valued in decision-making processes, helping shape school policies and practices in a more balanced and inclusive manner.”

The Parenting Calendar seeks to build a strong and collaborative partnership between parents and educators, creating a supportive environment that promotes students’ academic growth, emotional strength, and social well-being. Aligned with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the calendar also features dedicated sections on inclusion and adapting to change. These sections encourage awareness, sensitivity, and equitable practices for diverse learners, while also supporting parents and students in adjusting to curriculum reforms and evolving academic expectations.
