The Strategic Decision: No “Summer Break” for Exams

Published

on

Patna University (PU) has officially decided to sacrifice the traditional summer vacation to fix its academic timing. The university administration, led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ajay Kumar Singh and Exam Controller Prof. B.K. Lal, has mandated that exams proceed throughout the summer months.

  • Final Working Day: May 22, 2026, marks the end of regular classes before the summer break.
  • Goal: To ensure the new academic session (2026-27) begins exactly on time in July.

Exam Timeline for Final Year Students

The priority is to clear final-year students first so they can meet admission deadlines for higher education or jobs elsewhere.

  • UG Final Semester (Batch 2023-27): Exams start on May 22.
  • PG Final Semester (Batch 2024-26): Exams start in the first week of June.
  • Results: The target is to declare results by the last week of June.

The “2-Week Syllabus Challenge”

Because several sessions (specifically PG Sem-4, UG Sem-6, and Diploma Sem-2) only began classes roughly 45 days ago, there is a massive time crunch.

  • Teachers: Have been instructed to finish the remaining syllabus and Continuous Internal Assessments (CIA) within the next two weeks.
  • Departments: All HODs and Course Coordinators have been told to “work at pace” to ensure students are ready for the May/June exams.

Impact on Students and Faculty

While the pressure on teachers to finish the syllabus is high, the overall sentiment among students is relief. By conducting exams in June and releasing results promptly, PU students will be able to apply to other national universities (like DU or BHU) without the fear of their degrees being delayed.
Note: The university has sent the official academic and exam calendar to the Raj Bhavan for final approval to ensure the session remains “on track” nationwide.
