The latest edition commenced with a captivating vocal recital by Bhagyesh Marathe, the talented grandson of the legendary Pt. Ram Marathe. Recognized as one of the preeminent young musicians in the contemporary classical landscape, Bhagyesh impressed the audience with his remarkably flexible and agile voice. While his technical command was evident, the performance indicated an opportunity for further development in enhancing the emotional depth and resonance of his musical interpretations.

The inaugural evening culminated in a much-anticipated Saraswati veena concert delivered by the esteemed Jayanthi Kumaresh. This particular performance marked a significant milestone for the festival, as it represented the very first time the veena had graced its stage. Furthermore, it was only the second instance in the festival’s thirteen-year history that a Carnatic musician had been invited to perform, naturally giving rise to a palpable sense of curiosity and varied expectations among attendees.

Jayanthi concluded her memorable presentation with the enchanting thumri ‘Baat chalat’ rendered in Bhairavi, famously known as Sindhu Bhairavi within the Carnatic tradition, leaving a lasting impression of artistic brilliance and cross-cultural elegance.
